History

The Choral Institute opened the very first Green Lake Festival of Music in 1979 under the visionary leadership of Douglas Morris. He established the program’s distinguished reputation and then passed the baton to Sir David Willcocks whose personality, passion for music, and love of people left their deep and abiding mark on the Green Lake Festival. Now under the direction of Maestro Stephen Alltop, with Dr. John Hughes, people look forward all year to the four days of singing, fellowship, recreation, and high-level performance with professional orchestra — all in the beauty and tranquility of the Green Lake, Wisconsin area. Singers participate in daily choir rehearsals, choral conducting workshops, and optional one-on-one vocal coaching with guest artists. As always, there is time for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. The final concert is a grand conclusion to the Green Lake Festival of Music summer season.
