A bit of trivia for all of our music fans out there. Test your knowledge with our Green Lake Festival of Music trivia question. Guess who wrote this and when? “What may be right now might have been wrong before, and what was right so far may be wrong in the future. The Metropolitan (opera) must adapt its methods to prevail in the conditions of the day.”

| A NOTE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Wisconsin Public Radio Eliminates Two Hours of Music: You may have noticed a change in the regular Monday-Friday lineup of programs on WPR this fall. Two hours of classical programming, 8-9 AM and 6-7 PM, have been replaced with talk. The latter of these time periods, the 6-7 PM slot, falls during the dinner or pre-dinner hour, and now consists of interviews by Terry Gross. Personally, I greatly miss the program that has been replaced, Symphony at Six with host Lori Skelton, which I found to be a delightful postscript to the work day and the perfect accompaniment to my dinner preparations. If you have feelings about this change of program, you are encouraged to voice your opinions by emailing listener@wpr.org. --Jeannette Kreston, Executive Director, Green Lake Festival of Music | ||
| Artist News Green Lake Festival patrons who live in the WFMT radio network listening area, which includes the greater Chicago area and others, may want to tune in on three consecutive Monday evenings in October for the “Live from Studio One” program. Festival artists the Amelia Piano Trio will be performing a complete Beethoven cycle (Beethoven wrote a total of 9 piano trios) live on the radio. The programs will also feature interviews and a different living composer each week who will discuss the influence that Beethoven had on his/her life, and the trio will play a work by that composer. The programs air at 8 PM on 98.7 FM. | ||

| Elections Just Ahead – your voice counts Wisconsin Arts offers four actions you can take right now to connect with and educate candidates about the importance of the arts in your community: 1) Attend, or even host, a candidate forum and ask questions about support of arts and arts education. Join forces with your local Chamber of Commerce or League of Women Voters to produce the event. 2) Invite candidates to attend a performance or exhibit, tour your facility or participate in a program to learn more about your work and your organization. 3) Write a letter to the editor or op-ed piece about the impact of the arts in your community, using the talking points in this toolkit to add to your local information. It’s vital that arts supporters speak up to support the arts! Our national partner, Americans for the Arts, provides a "customizable" Letter to the Editor to send to your local media. 4. VOTE in the general election (November 7). If you don’t vote, you can’t complain! | Festival to Honor Retiring Board President Mark your calendars for Friday, Oct. 27 and watch your mailbox for an invitation to a "Salute to Bob House" to be held at Ripon College's beautiful Great Hall. After 22 years at the helm of the Festival, our leader Bob House is retiring and moving to Vermont to be close to his children. His service to the Festival has been extraordinary, and we want to honor him in the same way. There will be a festive meal, a presentation to Bob, and special music by Festival favorites Peter and Kathleen Van de Graaff, baritone and soprano, whose "Happy Birthday Mozart" concert was a highlight of our summer season. If you would like to attend or if you do not receive an invitation, please call the Festival at 920-748-9398 to RSVP for the event. | ![]() Bob House, board president for 22 years | |
