Green Lake Festival of Music Launches 26th Season with a Free Event on May 21: The Nature of Music

Even the most savvy classical concert music attendees admit they don't know it all, according to a survey presented at the January 2005 Chamber Music America conference. At least 65% of those who feel quite knowledgeable about classical music would like to learn more about the concerts they attend. The Green Lake Festival is offering a free, pre-season introduction to the basics of a classical concert, along with a smattering of fun. The one-hour program, "The Nature of Music: How to Listen: the Concert Experience Demystified," promises to reach anyone who would like to learn more.

Combining homor and history, Ripon College Professor of Music Kurt Dietrich will raise your comfort level in the classical music arena. Concert guides, which include definitions of musical terms and suggested music for listening, will be provided free of charge. There will be drawings for free Green Lake Festival concert tickets and other door prizes.

The presentation is open to the public and will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Rodman Center for the Arts at Ripon College, right across the parking lot from the Storzer Gymnasium.

The Green Lake Festival of Music is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of Wisconsin.
