1. Festival Receives Governor’s Award

The Green Lake Festival of Music will receive a 2004 Governor's Award in Support of the Arts from the Wisconsin Foundation for the Arts. The awards will be presented in a ceremony on Dec. 2 at the Governor’s mansion, hosted by Governor Jim Doyle and his wife, Jessica Doyle. This year’s honorees, as described by James Auer in a recent announcement in the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel, are:

Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Milwaukee, which is receiving a second Governor's Award in recognition of its continued and expanded arts support in Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin.

Esther Greenheck, a Wausau philanthropist who, with her late husband, B.A. Greenheck, established the Greenheck Foundation, which has greatly expanded arts opportunities throughout central Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Assembly for Local Arts, a Madison-based organization that connects Wisconsin's local artists and arts organization to each other, to the Wisconsin Arts Board and to the private sector.

The Green Lake Festival of Music, Green Lake, which has sponsored summer music concerts and classes for residents of the Fox River Valley for 25 years and has brought big-name performers to the area.

Winners will receive original watercolor paintings created for the occasion by Madison artist Lee Weiss.
