he 2006 Season
Babar waits patiently for his moment in the lights!
First of all, thank you to everyone for making our 27th season very successful. We could not do this without your support. We look forward to seeing all of you in 2007
Before we end this season, we have a few items of interest that we would like to share.

Festival Thanks its Patrons for a Great Season!

The Green Lake Festival of Music wrapped up its 27th season with a triple-header weekend on July 21 and 22, featuring a concert by Cleveland International Piano Competition winner Kotaru Fukuma on Friday night, and two concerts on Saturday, all at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake.  Saturday afternoon was the 3rd and final concert of the Festival’s new Thomas E. Caestecker Children’s Series, featuring French singer Claudia Hommel, and that evening Hommel was joined by singer Sean Harris and the Bobby Schiff jazz quartet for the season finale -- a concert of music by Gabriel Faure infused with the flavor of jazz.

The Festival thanks all of its loyal patrons for their support in attending concerts and other Festival events, making donations, sponsoring events, purchasing ads, or assisting as volunteers in numerous ways. Many new faces joined loyal Festival fans from previous seasons.  Special thanks go to Tom Caestecker for making possible the launching of the new children’s series, completely free to all, and to the local libraries that collaborated with some very creative related programming.  The large papier-mache statue of Babar was made by children at the Ripon Public Library with the help of Ripon College Americorps VISTA summer associates, the framework was created by Kim and Ann Pahlas of Ripon's Metalworks, and it adorned the Opera House for the "Babar the Elephant" concert.  It was a wonderful season, with two sold out events, and an overall 18% increase in attendance,  despite this summer’s record-high gas prices!

Expect to hear from us this fall with next summer’s lineup of concerts and activities.  Tentative dates are June 22 – July 21.  If you have comments or suggestions, send them in, and stay tuned!

Kali Jankovich
Farewell and thanks to summer intern Kali Jankovich

Each summer the Green Lake Festival is pleased to have a Ripon College student join our staff as Summer Intern.  These bright, capable students perform jobs ranging from processing mail,  answering phones and running errands to the very significant tasks of tracking and processing all concert ticket orders and manning the box office at concerts.  This summer we were fortunate to have Kali Jankovich as our intern.  Kali is a double major in Music and Education and brought a knack for marketing and sales along with a fantastic background in computers to her job, as she works on the other side of our building, the Kemper Computer Center, during the school year. Kali is a student assistant at Kemper. We thank Kali for doing a superb job for us this summer, and wish her all the best for a great senior year at Ripon College

Festival Welcomes Kim Conroy, new Administrative Director

The Festival is pleased to welcome Kim Conroy to our staff as our new Administrative Director, replacing Maria Dietrich who served in this capacity for the past 15 years and is now moving on to other things.  Kim and her husband Wade Packard are both 1994 graduates of Ripon College, where they were theatre majors.  After leaving Ripon, Kim went on to earn a Master of Arts Degree in Theatre from Florida State University in Tallahassee and then worked in the human resources department at ABN AMRO bank in Chicago.  But the pull of the theatre remained, and she and Wade packed up everything they owned and headed west to Los Angeles, where both landed jobs at Warner Bros. Television.  Kim eventually left Warner Bros. for a job as office manager for several divisions of the merchandise department in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.  There, in addition to a full range of administrative duties, she assisted celebrities with their needs and helped with such events as Hollywood Stars Day.  Kim says it was always amazing to walk down the hallway and be greeted by the likes of Tommy Lasorda and Steve Garvey! She also appeared on an episode of the sitcom "Friends"and an episode of "E.R."while living in Los Angeles.

Both Kim and Wade have family in the Green Lake area, so the next, and current chapter in their lives was a move back here to be close to family.  That happy coincidence brought Kim to the Green Lake Festival, where her multi-tasking skills were immediately put into play, as she started work on July 1, the very height of our season!  With her background in theatre and knowledge of live performance coupled with a sunny personality, large dose of enthusiasm, and knowledge of this area, Kim is poised to make a great contribution to the Festival.   Of her new position Kim says, "It is both an honor and a pleasure to be part of the Green Lake Festival of Music. I look forward to contributing to the Festival and seeing it into the future." Welcome, Kim, and the best of luck to you!

If you are looking for a concert to fill one of your August nights, the Wisconsin Symphonic Winds will be performing their final summer concert on Aug 27th at the Fine Arts Theater in the Arts and Communication Building on the UW Oshkosh Campus at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $6.00 at the door.

The WSW opened our season this year to rave reviews and was a featured ensemble at the 2005 WSMA Convention in Madison, Wisconsin.

Now in its third summer season, the WSW is rapidly becoming regarded as one the finest wind ensembles in the Midwest.  It is composed of 50 of the Fox Valley's professional level brass, woodwind and percussionist players and performs music of all styles and tastes.

The upcoming August concert, "Locally Grown" derives from the fact that this program will feature music which has strong local connections to the Fox Valley region, or more broadly, to Wisconsin.

The public is cordially invited to this audience friendly program.  For more information you may contact the WSW's musical director, Dr. Rob McWilliams (mcwilrob@uwosh.edu) or manager, Rand Skelton (randskelton@aol.com)
